Downtown Maplewood Missouri is full of gems, and I decided to spend one Saturday morning discovering a few of them for myself. These pictures of the people of Downtown Maplewood are more than a collection of portraits, but are together a portrait of the neighborhood.
A portrait assignment can be a tough challenge for a student. Usually, when photojournalists take portraits, they have stories to accompany them. In my case, I had to think creatively to uncover interesting people to feature and turn my set of portraits into something more.
